Two-Part Sorghum Harvest & Syrup Workshop

Join Maya Marie and the NYRP Urban Ag team to learn about the Afro-Indigenous origins of sorghum, cultivation techniques, and more. This session is part 2 of 3 in The Sweetness of Sorghum, a hands-on Deep Routes workshop series honoring the foodways that connect plants, peoples, and lands across Afro-Indigenous diasporas. In this session, participants will learn how to assess the sorghum’s readiness for harvest and gain hands-on practice of harvesting and processing the canes/stalks for seed, grain, juice, and syrup. On Sunday (October-11), in part 3, participants will have the opportunity to transform the sorghum juice into syrup.
