Tree Giveaway: NYPL Mott Haven, Big Reuse, and Council Member Diana Ayala

Native tree species to be distributed at this location include:

• Basswood
• Eastern Redbud
• Pawpaw
• Smooth Alder
• Spicebush
• Sweetbay Magnolia
• Tulip Poplar

Please note that tree sizes vary. Be prepared to transport up to a two-gallon pot size.

Even if all available trees are reserved for an event, walk-up recipients are welcome to pick up a tree during the second hour of the giveaway, from 3 p.m. onwards. All remaining trees are first-come, first-served until all trees are distributed. We always have trees remaining for the second hour for anyone who missed the chance to register in advance.

For Community Gardens on NYC Parks Property: Garden groups must get prior written permission from GreenThumb to plant new trees, perform major pruning such as limb removals, or remove existing trees, even if damaged, diseased, or dead. NYC Parks has very strict laws governing tree removal on NYC Parks property. Fines can be significant for improper removals.

Big Reuse and Council Member Diana Ayala will also be running a street tree care stewardship event during this giveaway! This will be a great opportunity to learn how to care for your tree while beautifying your city. Registration to participate is available on Eventbrite. Everyone who participates in the stewardship event will have a chance to win two blueberry bushes!
