• Essex Street Community Garden

New York Restoration Project teamed up with longtime supporters Michael Kors and Lance LePere to build NYRP’s first ever solar-powered community garden.

Members use the garden to grow everything from peppers and tomatoes to eggplant and oregano. The garden is home to beautiful apple trees, a cherry tree, and twin Crape Myrtle trees. You’ll see the garden blooming nearly all year round with crocuses and Japanese lilacs in the spring, English lavender and coneflowers in the summer, and goldenrods and asters in the fall.

Along with magnificent foliage, Essex Street Community Garden features a beautiful shade structure and is equipped with charging stations, WiFi, solar-powered security lights, and electricity for all public events and activities taking place in the gardens.

Since the garden’s inception, Essex Street Community Gardeners have organized popular back-to-school giveaways, coat drives, movie nights, Halloween festivals, women-empowerment luncheons, exercise class series, health fairs, free food giveaways, cooking classes, and more.
