As the lead partner of MillionTreesNYC—a PlaNYC initiative launched in 2007 to plant and care for one million new trees by 2015 in partnership with NYC Parks—we are well on our way to achieving our goal. With support from sponsors, we fulfill our tree planting commitment through two programs:
- Tree Giveaways – NYRP partners with local community organizations to distribute free trees to New York City residents to plant in their yards. The program covers tree purchasing, planning, promoting, event management, and follow-up surveys. Giveaways occur every spring (Apr–Jun) and fall (Sept-Nov).
- Direct Planting - NYRP staff and volunteers plant trees in parks, schoolyards, public housing properties, and other public spaces. Program includes securing and designing sites, tree purchasing, and volunteer management. Plantings in April-June and September-November.
