“That first week a few summers ago was an eye-opening experience for me,” said Charlie Reynoso, Community Engagement Manager at NYRP, while volunteering with Dove Missions in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. “After meeting with the families and visiting their homes, I left with the desire to contribute something that could be sustainable,” he said, reflecting on his visit 4 years ago.
And he did.
On a follow-up visit to the island country in 2017, Reynoso helped build 9 garden beds and a shade structure on top of Dove Mission’s youth center in the city. “My background working with community gardens at NYRP helped me see the possibilities to give this community the tools it needs to become healthier and more sustainable,” he said.
