Bookkeeper and Staff Accountant

New York Restoration Project (NYRP) believes that access to nature is a fundamental right. We work to strengthen communities to ensure that all New Yorkers have equitable access to green space. For 25 years, NYRP has invested in and stewarded public parkland, in our land trust of 52 community gardens, and in thousands of greening projects throughout New York City’s five boroughs.

NYRP seeks a motivated team player to be an integral part of its Finance team. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, the Bookkeeper/Staff Accountant manages all aspects of day-to-day transactions for the organization. He/she also works closely with key members of other departments to perform essential projects for the organization.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Processing accounts payable and maintaining vendor files;
  • Oversee daily bank deposits;
  • Record cash receipts and perform monthly reconciliations and analysis of bank and general ledger accounts;
  • Daily monitoring and reporting on cash position and fund transfers to manage the organization’s cash flow;
  • Work closely with Development Department to ensure charitable donations are properly verified and recorded;
  • Prepare accounts receivable collaboratively with grant managers;
  • Record journal entries for credit card payments;
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and financial statements;
  • Oversee compliance with all tax requirements, including payroll taxes, 1099s, and others as required;
  • Assist in payroll processing;
  • Perform account analysis and other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Success at managing a wide array of tasks and projects and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Confident communicator and effective collaborator with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Understanding of accounting best practices;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • High level of professionalism and organization skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
  • Experience with Financial Edge accounting software preferred.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required to be considered for the position.

SCHEDULE

This is a Monday through Friday, full-time position, averaging 40 hours per week.

LOCATION

This position is based out of our central midtown office on West 31st St in Manhattan. At this time administrative staff work a minimum of 2 days per week in the office and may work up to 3 days per week remotely. Permission to work remotely is subject to change in the future.

COMPENSATION

This is a non-exempt exempt position with an annual salary of $55,000 plus benefits inclusive of a competitive health and dental plan, and access to a 401K, vision plan, and paid time off.
