Volunteer Opportunity: Wetland Cleanup

Maintaining wetlands on Manhattan’s shorelines takes work. The wetlands at Sherman Creek Park are no exception. Any given day, you can spy a diversity of aquatic plants, animals—from crabs to egrets—and… trash.

On Saturday, July 25th, we’re inviting volunteers to come out as a part of our Sherman Creek Stewards program. Staff will lead you in a tour of our wetland areas, including a naturalized stand of phragmites growing along the Harlem River and the salt marsh in Swindler Cove at Sherman Creek Park. Along the way we will engage in trail maintenance, from litter and debris removal, to cutting back plants and weeding.

If you want to learn more about the importance of healthy wetlands to our urban environment, come out for the Wetland Clean-Up at Sherman Creek Park on Saturday, July 25th from 8:30am-11:00am. To register email volunteer@nyrp.org or call 917-291-6436.
