If you’ve ever attended one of our tree giveaway events then you know we provide a calendar on how to care for your tree (when to water, mulch, and prune) throughout the year. What you may have also noticed, is there is nothing listed on our calendar during the winter months. That’s because simply put, there isn’t much to do! Many of the trees in NYC have structural adaptations to survive the harsh winters here, and should do fine on their own. The most you can do for your tree actually occurs in the months building up to the winter season. Below is a winter preparation checklist you can use as a guide.

October 3rd will kick off this fall's highly anticipated tree giveaway season — with 22 events across the 5 boroughs! Don’t miss your chance to be a part of making history, as the tree you adopt this fall will take us right up to achieving our MillionTreesNYC goal. This season we will once again be full of trees that provide fruit, plenty of spring color and fall foliage! So far we are planning on giving away serviceberry, persimmon, hazelnut, fig, nectarine, plum, peach and even plumcot trees.
