National Invasive Species Awareness Week: New Regulations on Invasive Species

All New Yorkers should be aware of new statewide regulations on the sale, purchase, and transportation of a lengthy list of invasive plants that went into effect this past March. Included on the list of New York State Prohibited and Regulated Invasive Plants, available on the DEC website, are a number of plants that have been long popular with commercial and home gardeners, such as privet, Japanese honeysuckle, burning bush, angelica tree, and yellow iris. In total, 98 plants are now outright prohibited or heavily regulated in the state.
