We Grok It! is a fantastic organization dedicated to social and environmental justice. They foster health and sustainability through science, empowering residents to act as agents of change in their own communities. For the past 2 seasons, Bathgate Community Garden in the Bronx has been working with We Grok It! to support their space.

Just over a year ago, Bathgate Community Garden in the Tremont neighborhood of the South Bronx was an abandoned space. For nearly 20 years, the 16,000 square feet of empty space was totally vacant, but not anymore. Last year, NYRP started began transforming the space into a beautiful green garden that welcomes all community members.

The garden is now officially open and, to make the space even livelier, NYRP partnered with the Bronx Museum of the Arts to commission a mural that now oversees the garden. The mural was created by P.S. 236 third graders and Bronx based artists Lady K Fever and Dister.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Christine Keefe from We Grok It! was joined by gardener Laura Mejia and 10 little citizen scientists at NYRP’s Bathgate Community Garden in the Bronx. We Grok It! is an organization dedicated to social and environmental justice through scientific fellowship and learning, that is also working with NYRP to help activate the Bathgate garden by providing quality programming for neighborhood residents.
