Gary Dearborn is a landscape architect with a background in planning, design, and construction. As Chief of Capital, he oversees the New York Restoration Project’s program of garden renovations, park reconstruction projects, and various greening initiatives. He also supports land acquisition, open space planning, and capital funding proposals.Prior to joining NYRP, Gary spent 15 years at the Central Park Conservancy, where he supervised numerous capital improvements, including architectural renovations, utility upgrades, waterbody restorations, playground rebuilds, and landscape reconstruction projects.
His experience also includes positions at the Hudson River Park Trust, where he managed FEMA-funded contracts to restore flood damaged infrastructure, and time at the New York City Department of City Planning, where he led the first city effort to formulate a comprehensive bicycle and greenway network. He has also worked for the city’s departments of Design & Construction and Parks & Recreation.
He received a masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon.
