Under New York Restoration Project’s (NYRP) environmental education umbrella program, Nature in My Neighborhood, 11 different innovative, hands-on and location-based sessions provide a wide variety of enriching and engaging ways that children can discover nature in their neighborhoods through exposure to local and NYRP-managed green spaces.
NYRP’s Nature in My Neighborhood in-school, after-school and youth group-oriented programs are offered at no charge to educators – not only providing opportunities for children to spend quality time outdoors, but also helping youth to develop into caring and responsible stewards of their community, as well as the greater world in which we all live. By encouraging your child’s teachers to explore NYRP’s extensive and varied Nature in My Neighborhood programming, parents can help create opportunities for children to explore New York City’s many eco-wonders and participate in activities that promote imagination, ingenuity and self-creativity.
In addition to these activities, NYRP’s NatureMania Spring Break and annual Summer Camp programs at Swindler Cove Park afford youth more intensive, sustained encounters with nature and environmental stewardship. And, our Swindler Cove Sleepover and Family Day and Little Red Lighthouse and Harlem River Festivals provide children and their families with fun and interactive ways to celebrate and learn about nature, together – while joining in NYRP’s park and community garden revitalization efforts to ensure that New York City’s lovely green spaces continue to bring joy to communities for generations to come.
