At Swindler Cove

Nestled in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Swindler Cove Park represents the crown jewel among New York Restoration Project’s (NYRP) public park projects, encompassing five beautiful acres along the Harlem River.  Swindler Cove Park is home to NYRP’s Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse, Riley-Levin Children's Garden and NYRP’s Sherman Creek Center, scheduled to open in 2010.

Thousands of students from neighboring P.S. 5 and public schools citywide, along with their families and teachers, participate in gardening, aquatic science and other programs at Swindler Cove’s facilities. Activities abound in the Riley-Levin Children’s Garden where NYRP educators guide students in raising their own vegetables, flowers and herbs. While gardening, students learn about botany, plant ecology and nutrition in NYRP’s in-school, after-school and summer programs.

In addition, the Swindler Cove Habitat Rove has quickly become one of NYRP’s most popular activities in which students are continually asked to think critically about their natural environment, while investigating living habitats and live animals along the banks of the Harlem River. Other interactive and adventuresome things to do at Swindler Cove include NYRP’s Swindler Cove Campout and Family Day and NYRP Summer Camp – not to mention NatureMania Spring Break and Nature in My Neighborhood educational programs, including Our River, the Giver and Talkin’ Trees.
