Professional Development

To help teachers incorporate urban open space into their classroom lessons, New York Restoration Project (NYRP) hosts periodic professional development sessions – free and open to all New York City classroom and other educators. Conducted at Swindler Cove Park, these workshops provide materials and guidance to support outdoor education and to instill a sense of student stewardship in the city’s natural resources.

Teach Green Workshops

Teach Green is a series of workshops – each held seasonally in the fall/winter, spring and summer at NYRP’s Swindler Cove Park campus – that present educators with various knowledge and skills to implement nature- and environment-based, as well as stewardship skills successfully both in and outside of the classroom.

Teachers Night at Swindler Cove

This free teacher-appreciation event is hosted by NYRP’s Education department and features a night of fine food, drink, prizes, socializing and 30-minute workshops on programs offered at our Swindler Cove campus, community gardens and schoolyards. The evening also provides an opportunity to visit with local non-profit organizations that provide outdoor, children-in-nature experiences and to receive valuable curriculum and classroom resources. This is a great opportunity to empower educators to incorporate outdoor education experiences into their classrooms.
