Welcome to Scouts for MillionTreesNYC, a program for New York City Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of all ages. Scouts for MillionTreesNYC offers educational activities, free trees for planting, and opportunities to care for trees. Together the thousands of Scouts in New York City can make a huge difference to the urban forest and our city communities!
Scouts can earn three patches: (1) the Participation Patch, (2) the Plant Trees Patch, and (3) the Tree Care Patch. They will also meet many of the requirements toward achieving badges and other community service awards.
Additionally, all three patches can be earned at once through the semi-annual Scouts for MillionTreesNYC Tree Giveaways. See below for details on these events.
Participation Patch
The Activity Guide provides six hands-on activities for scouts and troop leaders to learn about trees and New York City’s urban forest. Scouts earn the Participation Patch with completion of 2-3 of the activities. Before selecting programs from the guide, read the Quick Start and Scout Survey.

Plant Trees Patch
MillionTreesNYC is offering free trees to any New York City scout troop. Planting and caring for trees is important to keep our city beautiful and healthy. Scouts only qualify for the Plant Trees Patch by planting a tree they get from a private nursery, from one of MillionTreesNYC Tree Giveaways, or from the Scouts for MillionTreesNYC Tree Giveaways.
The following events are an excellent way for scouts to gain hands-on planting experience before they plant their own trees.
JetBlue's One Thing That's Green Day!
JetBlue and New York Restoration Project (NYRP) are teaming up once again to do One Thing That's Green! Join us on April 9, 2011 as we plant hundreds of trees in Forest Hills, Queens!

MillionTreeNYC Spring Homeowner Tree Giveaways
Every year, NYRP gives out thousands of trees to homeowners and residents of New York City through the MillionTreesNYC initiative. Come to one of our giveaways in the spring and walk away with a New York City treasure.

Tree Care Patch
Scouts will have the opportunity to “adopt a tree” throughout the summer and be its caretaker. Watering, weed removing and beautification are all important parts of tree care. Record your activities on a report card and watch how the tree grows and changes throughout the season.
