Key to MillionTreesNYC’s success is its lead partners’ effectiveness in increasing brand awareness, as more awareness leads to more involvement, the planting of more trees and – consequently – more intrinsic benefits that trees provide. To that end, in 2008, MillionTreesNYC was designated as the world’s number one ground-breaking design by Metropolitan Home magazine in its annual “Design 100” issue honoring the most noteworthy personalities, places, objects and extraordinary concepts in the world of creative design.
NYRP and the New York City Parks Department have launched a series of citywide public service announcements as part of its campaign to encourage residents to participate in MillionTreesNYC and join in the excitement of helping to create a greener, cleaner and more sustainable New York City. In the spring of 2009, the “Trees do more than you think” campaign was introduced as a way to educate New Yorkers about the many benefits trees provide the city and its residents
NYRP also promotes and helps facilitate tree planting and maintenance by private homeowners through MillionTreesNYC-based community programs, including tree giveaways and nursery partnerships. For New Yorkers who don’t have space to plant a tree, MillionTreesNYC encourages residents to sponsor a tree or to help plant trees via many available volunteer opportunities, citywide.
