Movie Nights
Each summer, from June through August, NYRP presents Movie Nights in the Gardens – a series of outdoor screenings held in NYRP community gardens throughout the city and in NYRP’s Swindler Cove Park in Upper Manhattan – showcasing environmental-themed films, including documentaries and family-friendly features.
Admission is free and open to the public, who typically bring picnics and their own chairs or blankets – creating a uniquely casual and communal, yet urban and urbane gathering that people of all ages can enjoy under the stars and in front of the big screen.
Fitness Fridays
During the months of May, June and July, every Friday is Fitness Friday at NYRP’s community gardens in Brooklyn, East Harlem and – starting in 2010 – the Bronx.
These free, outdoor exercise classes are a great way to get outdoors and join NYRP in our beautiful community gardens to help fight adult and childhood obesity. Sessions emphasize a number of workout techniques, including yoga, Pilates, cardio-fitness and other disciplines – as well as healthy eating and living practices – and are free and open to NYRP community garden members and neighborhood residents of all ages.
Garden Grooves
During the summer, NYRP’s community gardens become outdoor concert halls with Garden Grooves – featuring a variety of musical genres performed by local bands, up-and-coming talents or renowned artists. This eagerly anticipated outdoor concert series takes place in NYRP’s Target Community Garden in Brooklyn and Target East Harlem Community Garden and, beginning in 2010, in NYRP’s Target Bronx Community Garden. Attendance is free and open to all NYRP garden members and community residents.
