On Saturday, October 2nd, more than 200 eager community and corporate volunteers joined NYRP staff to green and beautify Coney Island. As NYRP’s first volunteer tree-planting of the fall season, this event proved to be a huge success with volunteers digging in and planting hundreds of flowers, bulbs and trees throughout Brooklyn's Luna Park Housing complex. To celebrate the third year of MillionTreesNYC, each tree will be counted toward the initiative's one million tree-planting goal.

In addition to the volunteer day, local homeowners and families also took home more than 60 trees from a community tree giveaway that was held on site. As a result, a variety of trees, including Eastern Redbuds, Callery Pears and Yoshino Cherries, found new homes throughout the neighborhood. Additionally, American Express will help NYRP put down roots in communities citywide through a series of tree giveaways.
