New York Restoration Project (NYRP) invites all New Yorkers to rediscover the many wonders of our city’s waterways by joining us for our annual Harlem River Festival on Sunday, September 12th! Located in NYRP’s beautiful, five-acre Swindler Cove Park, this free, family-friendly festival – held from noon to 5:00 pm – will introduce hundreds of New York City residents to the greener side of Northern Manhattan through a series of aquatic-themed activities that explore the various habitats, wildlife and ecosystems that currently exist along the Harlem River shoreline.

In celebration of the day’s festivities, Swindler Cove Park will be transformed into an outdoor classroom, where attendees of all ages will engage in environmental education programming that investigates the park’s many diverse natural surroundings and the rippling impact our city’s water streams have on all of our daily lives. From boat tours to seining to canoeing in the harbor, NYC families and youth will participate in a number of eco-activities inspired by the very water we play in, learn from and rely on.

Additional festival entertainment includes nature explorations that uncover the park’s restored wetlands and indigenous plant and animal life, a surf simulator ride for those thrill seekers looking to experience something new and a live animal show. For those wanting to express their inner artist, a variety of fish-shaped cookies will be available for decorating. Throughout the day, musical entertainment will be provided by DJ Santana and traditional barbeque fare will be available for those interested in enjoying a leisurely picnic lunch by the river.

A key component of NYRP’s ongoing mission to restore New York City’s shorelines, this much-anticipated event was created in an effort to bring more NYC community members and residents throughout the five boroughs outdoors to experience our city’s coastlines and great outdoors.
