AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps is a federally funded network of national service programs that engages more than 75,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in communities throughout the nation. In exchange for their community service commitment, AmeriCorps members earn a living stipend and an education award to pay for college or pay back student loans.

New York Restoration Project's (NYRP) AmeriCorps program participants are typically recent graduates of either high school or college who are interested in engaging in meaningful work relating to the environment, the outdoors and the greening movement before progressing to further educational or employment opportunities. The program affords participants a tangible means by which to both give back to the environment and New York City, while earning credit towards incurred or impending educational expenses.

NYRP’s AmeriCorps members are involved in all aspects of the organization’s work – cleaning and maintaining public parkland and NYRP-owned community gardens throughout New York City. NYRP’s AmeriCorps members are also engaged in:

  • Engaging in horticulture and groundskeeping efforts.

  • Planting and caring for trees as part of NYRP’s collaboration in the New York City’s MillionTreesNYC initiative.

  • Leading community and corporate volunteer groups.

  • Engaging active citizenship and volunteerism through community outreach.

  • Directing environmental education programs.

  • Executing marketing and public relations initiatives.
